Day 1: Arrive La Paz
Your arrival transfer from La Paz airport to your hotel is not included as many travellers come by coach from Peru across Lake Titicaca. However, we can arrange your arrival transfer once we have confirmed your itinerary. When you arrive into La Paz you will be amazed by the landscape and altitude on which the largest city in Bolivia was created. This city sits adjoining onto the canyon and overlooks the snow-capped mountain of Mt Illimani. Even through la Paz is not the capital of Bolivia it is however the largest city for commerce, finance and industry and its regarded as the highest national capital in the world.
Today you have the remainder of the day to relax and enjoy the sights of this vibrant city. There are plenty of vendors on the streets shining shoes and selling trinkets, markets or take a taxi to the top of the canyon to look down and around the city, the view is amazing! Remember, depending on how you are feeling we recommend taking it easy to get used to the altitude.
Day 2: Sightseeing in La Paz
This morning your guide will meet you at the front of your hotel for your day tour of La Paz taking in the attractions and cultural aspect of this city. Your guide will first show you the Indian markets which also include the spooky Witches Market, the San Francisco Basilica, Murillo square, the Government Palace and National Congress, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Gold, Local customs, Murillo and Littoral museums.
Then after lunch you will go to the richer southern part of the city to see the difference between the old and new central city. The new cities include 30 floor sky scrapers and modern shopping centers where traditional Indians and office workers in Armani suites are making this city really colorful. Coming further down to the south the climate also changes in more warm and green areas. The altitude difference between central La Paz and the South can be sometimes 1000 meters!
La Paz is the Government’s home town although the official Capital City of Bolivia is Sucre. We leave the city a few kilometers and to visit the Moon Valley. Beautiful, by erosion formed landscapes in a little park where the Big Andes honey bird flies over your head (if you’re lucky).
Your guide will then return you to your hotel after a long and exhilarating day of La Paz
NOTE: Due road or weather conditions, the program can always be modified by us, if it’s necessary.
Day 3: Depart La Paz
After spending two nights in La Paz you should be better acquainted with the city and Bolivian culture, and be adjusted to the altitude. We recommend adding to this Travel Module with a visit to the famous Salt Lakes of Boliva or if you are looking for something a little different we recommend going to East Bolivia and see Jesuit Missions in the city of Concepcion, then onto Santa Cruz, Sucre and Potosi for the unique mine tour experience.
