“The Highlights of Chile & Argentina” suggested travel itinerary starts with the Colonial History of Santiago, Chile. The tour then takes us down to the breathtakingly beautiful Patagonia and into Puerto Montt and Punta Varas. We then cross the border to Argentina on one of the most memorable lake crossings with stunning scenery and snow capped Volcanic Mountains surrounding the many Lakes. We arrive in the Swiss chocolate heaven of Bariloche. Then travel to the Paris of Argentina, Buenos Aires, home to Evita, Diego Maradona and tango! Your journey ends at the magnificant Iguazu Falls where you will be in awe of the thundering roar of the falls on both the Argentine and Brazil sides. This Chile travel itinerary is simply an awesome feast for the eyes!

Day 1: Arrival Santiago
Arriving into Santiago, Chile you will be amazed at the impressive high-rise architecture and modern city life. Located in the center of the Chile it is a main gateway to many South American attractions. As with any capital city, it is loud and full of bustle but don’t be put off, this is a city of culture and character aplenty, and home to over 5million people so you should be able to find everything you need in this modern day city. The hotels we have selected in this package are centrally located and close to some fantastic Chilean cuisine, don’t forget to try out the wine from this region.
Day 2: Santiago half day Tour
To understanding and appreciate this underestimated city we have included a morning city tour of Santiago. The tour includes the Bernardo O Higgins Avenue running east west and dividing the city into two main parts; the providencia district and its commercial center Balmaceda park, San Cristobal hill and the metropolitan park, the forestal park. You will also visit the fine art museum, Plaza de Armas with the Cathedral and Town Hall. Further down is the oldest part of the city with uniquely constructed mansions. On the way we will include the exclusive Union Club, the National Library and the central Santa Lucia hill.
Day 3: Santiago to Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas
This morning your insight into Santiago concludes with your private transfer to the airport to board your flight to Puerto Montt. (Flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt not included)
Upon your arrival into Puerto Montt airport (Chile) you will be taken by bus to your hotel in Puerto Varas, 20kms from Puerto Montt and on the shore of German influenced region of Lake Llanquihue, the second largest lake of Chile.
Puerto Varas is the gateway to the uniquely beautiful region of Patagonia and is the starting point for all Patagonian adventures; however this town is spectacular in itself with breathtaking landscapes, lake beaches, shopping, casino district and the many open air activities. The hotel we have selected is close to some great local restaurants and in the heart of Puerto Varas.
Day 4: Journey to Peulla
The lake crossing from Chile to Argentina is one of the most fascinating trips you will take in your lifetime. This adventure starts just after breakfast with a transfer to the terminal to board the bus to the Petrohue village including a visit to the Petrohue River falls complete with a volcanic backdrop. We then continue down to the lake side to embark on the catamaran for the crossing the Lake Todos los Santos to Peulla. This part of the journey will provide budding photographers with breathtaking scenery so be sure to have your camera with you at all times.
When you arrive into Peulla you will be transferred to your hotel and have the remainder of the day at leisure. The hotel we have selected in Peulla is close to the lake and also in close proximity to the wonderful local restaurants.
Day 5: Journey to Bariloche (Argentina)
After an early breakfast your journey continues by coach to cross the Perez Rosales National Park to arrive in Argentina. From the Lake Frias crossing there is a coach transfer to Puerto Blest. Following the coach is a boat navigational trip through the serene Lake Nahuel Huapi to Puerto Panuelo for a final coach journey to Bariloche.
Surrounded by the foothills of the Andes, the southern shores of the Nahuel Huapi Lake and the National Park, the city of Bariloche is a breathtaking scenic location and endless exciting activities are guaranteed for tourist, locals and hikers.
The hotels we have selected for Bariloche is in the city and offers great views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. The remainder of the day is free for you to have a stroll around the town and enjoy the local sights and sample some of the famous Bariloche handmade chocolates!
Day 6 – Bariloche
We have included 2 full days in Bariloche for you to go at your own pace and choose from the many activities and excursions offered in this remarkable city. Bariloche is full of tours/adventures so depending on what your interests are we can recommend going on an excursion to see the surrounding villages and mountain landscapes, take a lake cruise, horse riding, mountain biking or take a scenic tour around Lake Nahuel Huapi and the magical Lopez Bay. Your choices are endless!
Day 7: Bariloche to Buenos Aires
After breakfast you will be taken by private transfer to Bariloche airport to continue on with your journey. Upon your arrival into Buenos Aires you will be transferred from the airport to your hotel. During the short drive you will be able to see the mix of traditional colonial architecture along with a strong European influence. Buenos Aires is laced with great restaurants boasting its renowned prime Argentinean meat with local Mendoza wine, nightclubs, theatre, shopping precincts and easy to navigate streets.
When you arrive at your hotel you will have the remainder of the day to explore Buenos Aires. It’s a city, which you need at least one afternoon to just walk through these streets and get a real feel for the Argentinean culture and of course, there is the shopping! Argentineans are renowned in the Americas for being incredibly fashionable and edgy with their fashion trends.
Day 8 – Sightseeing Buenos Aires and Show
Included in your packages is a local half-day city tour. Your city tour is 3.5 hours and you will be able to visit the main points in the city; these sights include the famous Opera House, the Colon Theater and the Obelisk, which is a symbol of Buenos Aires. In the Congress district, you can admire the Legislative Palace, built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Plaza de Mayo (May Square), in the historic heart of Buenos Aires and surrounded by some of the oldest and most important buildings: The Casa Rosada (Pink House), where the government’s executive branch is housed, the historical Cabildo and the Metropolitan Cathedral, where, inside, lies the remains of the General José de San Martín. You will also visit La Boca, a typically Italian migrant neighborhood, with its colorful houses and the famous Caminito walkway, and a museum of Arts in the open air. Afterwards, there’s a visit to Palermo, the residential district, with its magnificent houses and huge Botanical Park. Afterwards you will visit the wealthy Recoleta district, famous for its cemetery, nightlife, elegant shops and residences in the northern area of Buenos Aires.
You will then have the remainder of the day free and to prepare for your Dinner and Tango show later this evening.
Argentine Tango is a musical genre with a fantastic social and embracing dance to accompany it. Originating in the 19th century in Buenos Aires, it quickly grew in popularity and spread internationally. Tonight we have included a spectacular evening dinner and tango show at one of the leading tango venues. Here you will be able to Taste Argentine cuisine specialties accompanied by excellent wines and finish the evening enjoying a Tango and folklore show.
Day 9 –Buenos Aires to Iguazu falls
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport to board your flight from Buenos Aires to Iguassu falls. (Flight from Buenos Aires to Iguazu falls not included in package price). Upon your arrival at Iguassu airport you will be transferred to your hotel. After checking into your hotel your guide will be waiting for you to take you to Iguassu Falls on the Argentinean border.
First stop with be a visit to the visitor center inside Iguazu National Park. At the visitor center, you will catch a special purpose train that will take you to the upper path, lower path and the ferocious devils throat platform. The upper path is 500 meters long and last about 45 minutes seeing the waterfalls Two Sisters, Bosseti, Adam and Eve, Bernabe Mendez and San Martín falls from the upper part. For the lower path of the falls a guide will walk you around 1,300 meters of footpath for approximately 1.5 hours. The view is unique and distinctive and well worth the walk as you will be able to view the falls right in the middle! There is a chance you might get wet! The last viewing point is the Devils Throat, which surrounds the upper part of the Iguassu River, and you can walk to the balcony of Devil’s throat for the most spectacular view of all. There are plenty of photo opportunities on this tour and would suggest making sure your video is charged to be able to capture the full impact of this catapulting and thunderous waterfall.
Day 10 – Sightseeing Iguazu Falls (Brazilian side)
Yesterday you saw Iguazu falls from the Argentinean side of the boarder and now today you will able to observe the natural wondrous falls from the Brazilian side. Included in this package is a half-day tour which will take you over to the Brazilian border (visa required before departing Australia) for a panoramic view of the falls almost 3 km long and 270 cascades. It’s a 1000 m (approximately 1 Hour) of easy walking starting from the Das Cataratas Hotel and finishing in the canyon of the Devil’s Throat. The round trip takes approximately three hours.
After the half day tour you will be taken back to your hotel in Argentina for an afternoon at your leisure.
Optional: There is an opportunity to book an optional Helicopter ride over the falls and visit the Bird Park on the Brazilian side of the Iguassu Falls.
From both the Argentinian and Brazilian side of the Falls there are opportunities to go on exiting Safari Boat trips and get real close to these majestic Falls (be prepared to get wet)
Day 11 – Depart Iguazu
This morning after breakfast you will have some time to relax before your journey to Iguassu falls concludes. You will then be taken to the airport.
