This “10 Days Desert & Glaciers” suggested itinerary starts with the magic Atacama Desert in the North of Chile, the driest desert on earth. Among the highlights, the oasis of San Pedro de Atacama is an absolute ‘Must’ to visit. The sightseeing is a magical combination of National parks filled with a diverse range of wildlife, geyser fields, salt flats, canyons, geological formations, adobe houses, indigenous ruins and Altiplanic lagoons. The tour then takes us down to the breathtakingly beautiful Patagonia and into Puerto Chacabuco, from where we will navigate through San Rafael Lagoon National Park where you will have the opportunity to get closer to the Glacier in a zodiac boat. We then continue our adventure visiting the amazing Aiken Del Sur private reserve, one of the most beautiful attractions in the region. Your journey ends in the magnificent Torres Del Paine National Park, which is the crown jewel of the Chilean national park system. In 1978 it was declared a Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The park is internationally known for its trekking opportunities and breathtaking landscapes. This Chile travel itinerary is simply a must do!

Day 1: Arrive in San Pedro De Atacama

San Pedro de Atacama_Laguna Cejar7Upon your arrival into Calama airport a transfer will be waiting to take you to the hotel in San Pedro De Atacama.

Once you have settled into your San Pedro hotel, the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Wander the streets, sip a local wine or cocktail at the many outdoor cafes or shop in the many quaint shops the town offers. San Pedro has ancient archaeological sites to explore and is in the heart of Chile’s most spectacular northern scenery.

Day 2: San Pedro De Atacama sightseeing

Today after your breakfast you will have an early morning departure to take a half day tour to Laguna Cejar at 20 km of San Pedro de Atacama at 2,600m above sea level and in the middle of the Atacama salt deposit. This lagoon presents a higher floating level than the Dead Sea, due to its high concentration of salt and lithium. Besides, it’s very attractive to see the color of the lagoon water. We continue our travel to the south of the salt deposit, where we’ll find the Ojos del Salar, two fresh water pools in the middle of the desert. The legend says these pools were formed by two meteorites which fell down in the 40’s. After enjoy this amazing natural landscape we continue our trip until arrive to the Tebinquiche lagoon. This lagoon has the whitest salt of the San Pedro de Atacama. Back to San Pedro.

Laguna CejarPick up at your hotel in the afternoon to enjoy a spectacular sunset in the Moon Valley. We will leave San Pedro towards Calama, stopping on the way to give you the opportunity to take some great pictures of the AndeanMountain range, the huge salt lake of Atacama, the active volcano Lascar and the impressive volcano Licancabur behind the small oasis of San Pedro de Atacama. We will continue to the Moon Valley, one of the most spectacular phenomena in the Atacama Desert because of its geomorphic features of geological structures that suffered by erosion thousand of years by the climate effects. Time to explore this amazing place with its bizarre rock formations. You will be impressed by the silent moonscape of this valley, exploring strange figures that nature has formed of salt and clay. We will be able to enjoy the salt figures “Tres Marias”, the Salt Caverns at sunset, which makes it even more beautiful. Optional short hike to one of the giant sand dunes in the valley. Return to your hotel in San Pedro around 20:00 PM.

Day 3: San Pedro De Atacama sightseeing

San-Pedro_Gesier-del-Tatio1Today’s full day adventure is in the Atacama Desert exploring more hidden treasures. A visit to the Tatio Geysers which ascending to around 13-14000 feet. The geysers are an amazing natural geothermal field and the fumaroles can only be seen at dawn under the first rays of sun. There are small geysers and scalding mud craters which show different colours from the presence of minerals contained in the water. The return journey to San Pedro routes along a mountain road offering stunning views of the Puntana volcano and the peaks of Torcopuri. We visit the cascading pools of Puritama hot springs hidden in the mountain canyon surrounded by pampas grass. Bathe in the warm waters to relax and rejuvenate before returning back to your hotel.

Day 4: Journey to Balmaceda (South of Chile)

Today after your breakfast, you will be transferred to the Calama airport to catch your next flight towards Balmaceda airport. (flight is not included)
Transfer from Balmaceda airport to Loberías del Sur Hotel in Puerto Chacabuco. Welcome drink and welcome Dinner.
Overnight at Hotel Loberías del Sur.

Day 5: Journey to San Rafael Lagoon

Today we will sail from Port Chacabuco to The San Rafael Lagoon, visit one of the last natural wonders of the World and be part of the adventure. Sailing by day through the Chilean Patagonia’s Canals you will discover native forests that seem to fuse with the ocean in an astounding spectacle. After navigating 125 nautical miles towards The San Rafael Lagoon through the Patagonian canals, between green islands and fiords of exuberant nature you will reach the foot of the San Valentín Glacier and see how its icebergs detach and fall into the San Rafael Lagoon.

Day 6: Aiken Del Sur National Park sightseeing

Today after your buffet breakfast, you will enjoy a half day excursion to Aiken del Sur Park with trekking and an amazing Patagonian lamb barbecue(min 6 passengers). Lunch which will be cheered by a local folk group. Dinner at Loberías del Sur Hotel. Overnight in Loberías del Sur Hotel.

Day 7: Journey to Torres Del Paine National Park

Upon your arrival into Punta Arenas airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Torres Del Paine National Park. Dinner and overnight is at Las Torres Hotel.

Day 8-9: Torres Del Paine National Park

When you stay in Hotel Las Torres in Torres Del Paine National Park, you can choose from a variety tours available for you, that are designed to suit your specific needs, whilst covering the important elements of any trip to Torres Del Paine National Park: accommodation, meals, an open bar, entrance to the park, transfers and daily excursions that will have you interacting with nature from morning to night. Overnight is at Las Torres Hotel

Day 10: Departure from Punta Arenas

Today you will be transferred from Hotel Las Torres to Punta Arenas airport.
