Day 1: Antigua Guatemala
Upon your arrival into Guatemala City you will be transferred from the airport to your hotel in Antigua a world heritage listed town. Antigua has beautiful heritage listed buildings, pebble stone streets and is situated close to the Pacaya Volcano. Antigua is very compact and easy and safe to walk around. Most points of interest for visitors are within walking distance.
Day 2: Explore El Mercado
Today you will have a whole day to explore Antigua on your own. Visit the vibrant El Mercado as walking through this market is a cultural experience! The market is open every day including Sunday, but is at its largest on Saturday, Monday, and Thursday. The cheapest fruit and vegetables, commodities, fresh meat, and gifts are found here. There are so many sections to the market, that one needs to spend nearly a full day to see it all. It is common to bargain for most purchases in the open air market.
Day 3: Lake Atitlan
Day 4: Pacaya Volcano Trek
Today you will visit The Pacaya, one of the most active volcanoes of Central America. At a height of 2,560 meters (8,400 ft) Pacaya is not among Guatemala’s highest volcanoes, but nonetheless the view from the top is spectacular. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 5: From Antigua Guatemala to Flores Island
After breakfast you will have a transfer to Guatemala City airport to board your flight to Flores Island. For many, the main reason to visit Flores is its proximity to Tikal, the most famous Mayan ruins in Guatemala, or as a starting point for trips around Petén. The city itself is a wonder — dense with colonial, red-roofed buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, a historic church and Spanish plaza, and restaurants that are easy to stumble upon walking the city’s charming streets. Most visitors will find that this island city is more than just a take-off point, but a memorable attraction in itself.
Day 6: Tikal National Park
Today you will explore the amazing UNESCO protected Mayan Temple site of Tikal where huge Mayan temples rise above the jungle canopy and monkeys and tropical birds are abundant in the surrounding rain-forest. Visit the Temples of the great jaguar, the masks, and the palace of the nobles. From temple IV you will have the great view of Tikal and the dense rain-forest that surrounds it. Tikal boasts more than 300 structures and is regarded as the most excavated Mayan Site to date.
Day 7: From Flores Island to Antigua Guatemala
