Day 1 – Arrive San Jose
Upon your arrival into San Jose you will be transferred from the airport to your hotel. The downtown area is a bustling collection of well-laid out streets filled with bustling traffic and lined with eclectic, historic architecture. Remainder of the day to explore the city.
Day 2 – Explore San Jose & Mercado Central
Today you will have a whole day to explore San Jose on your own. There is plenty of sightseeing to be done to keep you occupied. Browse through a variety of small coffee growers visit Mercado Central, a very old, interesting and bustling food market, which also contains a number of small restaurants and quick-serve counters for the locals.
Day 3 – From San Jose to Manuel Antonio National Park
Discover the rain forest of this unique National Park and enjoy the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful white sandy beaches of Manuel Antonio.
There are four especially interesting features in the Park. The first is the “tómbolo” on Cathedral Point, which communicates the ancient Cathedral Island to the mainland. The second is the blowhole at Escondido Port. Thirdly, Serrucho Point, a deeply eroded cliff that looks like a saw and has sea caves. The fourth is the pre-Columbian underwater turtle trap. Observe innumerable tiny fish at low tide. There are many different habitats, 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds.
Day 4 – Manuel Antonio National Park
Today you will have a whole day to explore Manuel Antonio on your own. The park offers opportunities for hiking and wildlife watching. Or you can just relaxed on one of the beautiful beaches and take in the scenery. Don’t miss the monkeys crossing the road in the afternoons or the spectacular sunsets which can be seen from many of the restaurants and hotels along the road.
Day 5 – From Manuel Antonio to Monteverde
Founded by a group of Quaker Farmers in the 1950’s, Monteverde is a charming little town. Its appeal centers around its scenery and nature. The most scenic parts of Monteverde are at the Trocha in San Luis, at the Ventana in the Monteverde Reserve or at the Mirador in the Santa Elena Reserve. Today you will have the rest of the day to explore Monteverde.
Day 6 – Monteverde Cloud Rainforest Reserve
Visit this 10000ha Biological Reserve, always cold and humid thanks to the rain clouds coming from the Caribbean. Many ecosystems exist in the numerous reserves, such as Bajo del Tigre, the Santa Elena Reserve, the Bosque Eterno de los Niños and the world-famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Exuberant forest area with trees covered with moss and ferns that protect the home of different exotic frogs and the resplendent Quetzal (one of the 400 species of birds to be found here).
Day 7 – From Monteverde to San Jose
Travel to San Jose where you will enjoy your last night in the city and prepare to leave for your flight the next day.
Day 8 – Depart San Jose
After breakfast you will get a transfer from your hotel to the airport in San Jose. Your Explore Costa Rica itinerary concludes here.
